Great eating out in Toronto has always been expected by its 2.7 million residents and the colossal 27 million tourists that descend each year. Speaking of Winterlicious, has it really only been 2 years since us Torontonians enjoyed the exciting food delights offered by this wonderful Winter event? It really does seem more than that, and like many, I was unsure if it would return any time soon. So, it was really great and unexpected news to hear that the City of Toronto is launching its next instalment of this most popular culinary event in early 2023.
For those not in the know, Winterlicious is an annual program run by the City of Toronto, where qualifying restaurants offer 3 course set menus for a fixed price. The event usually takes place over a 2-week period, normally in early February, which is often a slow time of the year for many restaurants in the city. Winterlicious provides the opportunity for people to explore and enjoy exciting menus at an affordable price, whilst at the same time helping participating restaurants boost both their sales and customer bases.
Toronto is famous for its plethora of wonderful and diverse eateries, with menus from across the world. So it’s encouraging to read on their website , that the City of Toronto is still dedicated to helping restaurants recover from the last couple of very bleak years. For this upcoming Winterlicious, which runs from January 27th to February 9th, the City has made a few changes to make it easier for restaurants to apply. Fees have also been waived for the event, which is a welcome relief during these tumultuous times of price hikes.
It is expected that 200+ restaurants from across Toronto will take part in Winterlicious 2023; you can be sure that there’s going to be a wonderfully different range of cuisines to choose from too. In all city neighbourhoods, whatever tickles your tastebuds, you can be sure that this brand new Winterlicious event will accommodate the finickiest of customers. What’s not to love about this foody event that falls in our coldest month!
Winterlicious 2023 promises to open up even more accessibility and choices for customers too, with different price points being introduced. At participating venues across the city, you can expect to be offered 3 course lunches starting from $20 to $55, and 3 course dinners from $55 to $75. It will provide the opportunity for those who are budget conscious to try out new venues and unfamiliar dishes, whilst catering for those who want to splash out a little bit more on their dining experiences.
The Winterlicious 2023 event will hopefully only be just the start of a booming year for the recovering Toronto restaurant scene. I am sure it will, as people in their droves continue to shake off the constraints from the recent pandemic to head out, eat and enjoy themselves. Make sure that you are part of the celebration early next year; take advantage of glorious dining at one, two or more of the participating restaurants.
